A roughly 3,000-square-foot HO-scale model train layout in the Randall Museum's basement, built and maintained by the volunteer Golden Gate Model Railroad Club since 1961. Trains run in automated mode during museum hours on weekdays; volunteer club members come in to run their own trains and talk railroading with visitors on most Saturdays.

Good to know

  • Free with the museum's general free admission -- not a separately ticketed or bookable session
  • Museum hours (and this exhibit's weekday pattern) are Tue-Sat, 10 AM-5 PM, closed Sun/Mon -- confirmed via randallmuseum.org/directions-hours/
  • "Most Saturdays" is the museum's own wording, not a guarantee of live-run trains every week
  • Surfaced researching new candidate orgs for the 2026-09-13 sweep; verified directly against randallmuseum.org (already an in-roster domain) plus a corroborating GGMRC/KQED history search
